GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. — Relief efforts are underway in several West Virginia counties after a storm system dumped as much as 9 inches of rain on the region, triggering devastating flooding.

There have been over two dozen confirmed deaths, and countless homes and businesses have been destroyed or damaged.

Video of a house on fire floating in floodwaters went viral on Friday, just one example of the storm’s power.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin declared a state of emergency in 44 counties, according to WCHS.

Widespread power outages and closed roads are hampering the assistance efforts of multiple government agencies.
