Katheryn Duncan, 29, was charged with physical abuse of a child and disorderly conduct, WITI reported.

According to a criminal complaint filed after the April 17 incident, the girl was supposed to get off at a bus stop in Caledonia, in Racine County, but the bus driver was confused about what stop the girl was supposed to exit the bus, WISN reported.

Duncan is a cousin of the girl's mother, the television station reported.

When the driver pulled over, Duncan allegedly boarded the bus and yelled at the child to leave the bus, according to the complaint. Duncan then hit the girl in the face several times with closed fists, WISN reported.

An officer said the girl's cheek "appeared red and slightly swollen," and she also had "a lump on her head underneath her hair," and a "large red mark on her upper back," WITI reported, citing the criminal complaint.

The father of the child said Duncan "admitted to pushing (the girl) against the window and tried folding her up 'like a pretzel' in order to remove her from the bus," according to the complaint.

Duncan appeared in court Tuesday, and her preliminary hearing is set for May 2, WITI reported.
