JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The victim in the Buckman Bridge crash has been identified by the Florida Highway Patrol Thursday morning.

Maddox was found in the St. Johns River after a Ford Ranger pickup truck went over the Buckman Bridge Wednesday.

Investigators say the pickup truck went over the bridge when a semi-truck jackknifed in the southbound lanes, going toward the Mandarin area.  Drivers in the northbound lanes were looking at the crash and traffic slowed down.

The driver of a Toyota Scion, 21-year-old Andrew McPhun, rear-ended the pickup truck, sending it over the northbound side of the bridge and into the water, police said.

Police say Maddox tried to save his own life.
