Bortles Q&A: Jaguars quarterback says he paid brother's tuition with first paycheck

Blake Bortles, the fifth-year Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback who led the team to a 31-20 win in Week 2 over the New England Patriots, held a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Tuesday.

The victory placed Bortles in the national spotlight after he outgunned Tom Brady head-to-head in the late-afternoon game on CBS. Bortles threw for nearly 400 yards after the Jaguars placed the game in his hands after star running back Leonard Fournette was injured.

NEXT UP: Titans at Jaguars, 1 p.m. Sunday, CBS47

Some Highlights of the Q&A:

On his home in Jacksonville Beach:

"There have been a few instances of kids ringing the doorbell at an odd hour and just standing there. I live close to the beach, so there have been times when some people mistake my walkway for the public one.

"There's actually been a couple times where people showed up and ended up hanging out for a while."

On being called the BOAT ... and Bortle Kombat:

"I've never been a big nickname guy. For the most part people just call me Blake. Coaches and players around the facility just call me 5. I like that.

On the recent success of the University of Central Florida, his alma mater:

"I've gotten the chance to meet some other guys on the staff. I'm planning on going down there on our bye week and watching the game, so I'm hoping we see some good stuff happen."

On his "Welcome the the NFL" moment:

"[When] I got hit by JJ Watt my rookie year. I was just like 'Yeah, people weren't that big playing against UCF.'"

Weirdest thing he ever signed:

"I signed a baby in college and I asked the lady multiple times, 'Like this is permanent marker on your baby's forehead, you sure this is ok?'" Kind of a Ricky Bobby situation.

Taco Bell order?

I do a couple Cheesy Gordita Crunches, some quesadillas, always a Baja Blast. And then some random things, whatever pops off the menu.

What did you do with your first NFL paycheck?

I paid for my brother's college tuition.

On the Blake Bortles Facts Twitter feed:

I do know about it. I think it's pretty funny and super creative.

Favorite stadium on the road:

I think the new Atlanta stadium is pretty sweet. We played a preseason there last year and with it being new and state of the art architecture and design, everything brand-spanking new, I thought it was pretty sweet. Minnesota is another stadium that's pretty incredible.

On playing in London every year:

We get to go over there every year so we've kind of figured out the routine. Just as far as getting over there, making sure you get the right amount of sleep and your body's feeling good. It's also just a cool environment, we always go there and it's always sold out and they're extremely loud and into the game. It seems like each year we go, there are more Jags fans so that's cool to see.

On the recent success of the Jaguars, who came within an eyelash of going the Super Bowl in 2017:

I think Doug [coach Marrone] and [VP of Operations] Tom Coughlin did a really good job of overhauling the mentality of the building and turning it into a winning culture.

You know, as far as, expect to win each week in every game we play, where before it was kind of the stereotype of 'Jacksonville is a bad football team.'"
