Recap: Kansas State vs. South Dakota

Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Foster netted 18 points as the Kansas State Wildcats outlasted the South Dakota Coyotes, 64-62, in a non- conference bout at Bramlage Coliseum.

Foster was just 6-of-20 from the field for Kansas State (6-3) but made 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Shane Southwell added 17 points, while Thomas Gipson tallied 13 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats, who have won four in a row.

For South Dakota (3-6), losers of three straight, Trevor Gruis put up 18 points on 7-of-8 from the field to go with nine rebounds and three blocks. Adam Thoseby registered 16 points and Trey Norris handed out seven assists.

South Dakota was not intimidated by its road surroundings to start the game, as it shot 52.2 percent from the field in the first half as it took a 31-26 lead at halftime. Kansas State struggled out of the gate by making just 32.1 percent of its field goal tries.

The Wildcats opened the second half on an 8-2 run to take a one-point lead, and the teams went on the seesaw down the stretch with six ties and 13 lead changes over the final 20 minutes until Southwell made what proved to be the game-winning 3-pointer with 4:54 left. The Wildcats nearly blew the game down the stretch by shooting a miserable 1-of-7 from the free-throw line in the final minute, but the Coyotes could not capitalize.

Kansas State won the rebounding battle, 39-32, and outscored South Dakota in second-chance points, 19-4.
