Recap: Houston vs. San Jose St

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jalen James had a triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as the San Jose State Spartans won a close game against the Houston Cougars, 72-68, in a non-conference tilt at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Rashad Muhammad scored 21 points in 23 minutes for the Spartans (3-6). Devante Wilson added 16 points.

The Cougars (6-4) were paced by Jherrod Stiggers' 20 points. Brandon Morris added 17 points and five rebounds, while TaShawn Thomas chipped in 12 points.

Houston took advantage of the Spartans' 11 first-half turnovers which allowed the Cougars to take 14 more shots. The home team held a 41-29 lead at the break. San Jose State shot a weak 35 percent from the field but made 5-of-12 from 3-point range. Houston made 41.2 percent of its field goal attempts.

The Spartans came out of the break on fire, making 60 percent of their shots from the floor and draining 9-of-14 from beyond the arc. With 1:34 remaining, Muhammad hit a go-ahead 3-pointer to put the Spartans up, 68-66, and they held on to the lead down the stretch.

James recorded just the second triple-double in school history.
