Recap: Texas vs. South Alabama
Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Holmes scored 23 points as the Texas Longhorns stormed back to claim an 84-77 victory over the South Alabama Jaguars in a non-conference scuffle at the Erwin Center.
Holmes also added nine rebounds for Texas (2-0). Javan Felix registered 15 points and Isaiah Taylor put in 13 points to go with five assists.
Augustine Rubit led South Alabama (1-1) with 22 points and eight rebounds. Mychal Ammons contributed 16 points before fouling out and Antoine Allen and Barrington Stevens tacked on 12 apiece.
The Jaguars lit it up from 3-point range, hitting 10 triples, in the first half as they went into the break leading 45-31. Texas went just 2-of-6 from beyond the arc and 14-of-32 overall in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half the Jaguars cooled off considerably, making just 3-of-12 shots from 3-point range and 37.9 percent overall. Texas rallied by hitting on 52.8 percent of its shots and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
The Longhorns outscored the Jaguars, 42-10, in the paint and, 18-6, in second chance points.Game Notes
