Recap: Central Mich vs. Massachusetts

Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Titus Davis caught seven passes for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Central Michigan Chippewas shut down the Minutemen of UMass, 37-0, at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

Cooper Rush converted 13 of his 21 pass attempts on the day for the Chippewas (5-6, 4-3 MAC), resulting in 231 yards and those two scores to Davis. Zurlon Tipton contributed with 50 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

A.J. Doyle connected on only 6-of-16 passes for the Minutemen (1-10, 1-6) for 45 yards and was picked off three times as the team generated a total of only 173 yards of offense.

Tipton got the ball rolling for CMU with a three-yard TD run early in the first quarter. The Chippewas, now winners of two straight, then logged 20 points in the second frame, beginning with a 33-yard field goal by Ron Coluzzi less than a minute into the period.

Tony Annese drew some attention for the CMU defense as he intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yards for the score at the 10:31 mark of the quarter. Coluzzi added a 33-yard field goal later in the frame, but not before Rush and Davis hooked up for a 34-yard TD pass play.

Ahead by 27 at the break, Central Michigan slowed down in the second half as Davis reeled in a 30-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and Coluzzi converted a 24-yard field goal in the fourth to put the game away.

UMass, which converted only 3-of-12 on third-down plays, held the Chippewas to just 298 yards of offense. The Minutemen have now dropped five in a row.
