Normal, IL (Sports Network) - Illinois State has added former Ohio State linebacker David Perkins and Citrus Junior College punter C.J. Laros to its program, the Missouri Valley Football Conference school announced Monday.

Both players have enrolled in classes at Illinois State and are eligible for the 2013 season.

The 6-foot-2, 228-pound Perkins, from South Bend, Ind., played in nine games for Ohio State as a true freshman last season, registering six tackles and a pass breakup.

Known for tackling the Brutus Buckeye team mascot during spring football, Perkins was arrested on charges of criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, criminal damaging and underage/under the influence of alcohol in Bowling Green, Ohio, on May 25.

Laros, 6-1, 195, played two seasons at Citrus JC in California. He is a native of Australia.

The pair join two other transfers signed by Illinois State in the winter, quarterback Jared Barnett and running back Collin Keoshian.

Coach Brock Spack's Redbirds had a 9-4 record last season and finished with a No. 8 ranking in The Sports Network FCS Top 25. They will open the 2013 season on Aug. 29 at Ball State.
