Marmol dealt to Dodgers

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs traded pitcher Carlos Marmol to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for pitcher Matt Guerrier and cash considerations on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Marmol had spent much of the past five seasons as Chicago's closer before control issues earned him a demotion. The Cubs designated him for assignment on June 25 and he walked 21 batters in 27 2/3 innings this season.

In his career, Marmol owns prolific strikeout numbers with 703 in 542 1/3 innings to go with a 3.50 earned run average in 483 games, all with the Cubs. He limited batters to a .185 average against throughout his in the majors.

In 2010, Marmol picked up career-bests with 38 saves and 138 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings, He also had a 2.55 ERA.

The Dodgers had designated the 34-year-old Guerrier for assignment on Sunday.

This season, the righty had a 4.80 ERA in 30 innings with the Dodgers. Guerrier is 25-33 with a 3.54 ERA 513 games -- including three starts -- over 10 seasons with the Minnesota Twins and Dodgers.
