Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Seven months after throwing a perfect game, Philip Humber has a new team after the Houston Astros claimed the pitcher off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

Humber became the 21st hurler to toss a perfect game after retiring all 27 Seattle Mariners hitters in a 4-0 victory at Safeco Field on Apr. 21, but that was the high point off an otherwise rough season for the right-hander. He spent a month on the disabled list with an elbow strain and was removed from the team's rotation in early August.

In 26 appearances, including 16 starts, Humber recorded a 6.44 earned run average along with a 5-5 record.

Humber, a Texas native who pitched collegiately in Houston for Rice University, did have a solid season for the White Sox in 2011. The former first-round draft pick won a career-high nine games while posting a 3.75 ERA in 28 games -- 26 starts.

The 29-year-old owns a 16-15 record with a 4.87 ERA in 80 career outings -- 44 starts -- during big league stints with the New York Mets, Minnesota, Kansas City and the White Sox.

Chicago also announced on Friday that it would not tender 2013 contracts to infielder Dan Johnson and pitcher Anthony Carter.

Johnson hit three homers in Chicago's season finale at Cleveland on Oct. 3 but spent most of the year with Triple-A Charlotte, where the 33-year-old batted .267 with 28 homers and 85 RBI in 137 games.
