NFL Draft updates: Jaguars take Cam Robinson, Dawuane Smoot in second and third rounds

Cam Robinson

The Jacksonville Jaguars took Alabama defensive lineman Cam Robinson and Illinois defensive end Dawuane Smoot in the second and third rounds respectively in the 2017 NFL Draft on Friday night.

The Jags traded up one spot on Friday night to take Cam Robinson in the second round. Jaguars alum, kicker Josh Scobee, announced the team had picked Smoot in the third round.

Robinson got a visit from the Jaguars, including head coach Doug Marrone, a few weeks ago.

On Thursday night, the Jaguars selected LSU running back Leonard Fournette with the fourth overall pick.

Robinson said he looked forward to the opportunity to block for Fournette.

“It’s going to be really cool. I’ve known Leonard for a while. We came out of high school in the same class, both from Louisiana.  He was the number one player in the state. I was the number two player in the state. It’s going to be fun,” he said.

Smoot said getting picked 68th overall by the Jaguars came at just the right time.

“I’m very surprised. I was getting a little stressed that I didn’t get picked up yet, but you guys came at the right time,” he said.
