TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Palm Beach Post
) -- Florida State has had four players taken in the first round of the draft twice (1987, 2006) and the most Seminoles selected in one draft was 10 in 1995.
Both of those numbers will be challenged in the next three days, a sign that, according to coach Jimbo Fisher, shows FSU’s program and back on track.
“Hopefully we can do that every year,” Fisher said today. “That (shows) we’re establishing ourselves as a definite program and not just a good team. We revamped the type of recruiting we were doing and identified certain types of athletes we thought were difference makers and not only that, were great kids.
“I really like the development of our program.”
CB Xavier Rhodes, DE Bjoern Werner and OL Menelik Watson all appear to be first round locks. And QB EJ Manuel and DE Cornellius Carradine could join them.
Those likely to taken in the middle to late rounds include: DE Brandon Jenkins, K Dustin Hopkins, FB Lonnie Pryor and DT Everett Dawkins.
LB Vince Williams, WR Rodney Smith and DT Anthony McCloud are borderline late round picks or possible priority free agents.
