Recap: Edmonton vs. Vancouver

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Christopher Tanev scored the first goal of his career with 19.3 seconds left in overtime to help the Vancouver Canucks take a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

"I was able to come in off the blue line and I shot it. I think one of our guys screened the goalie and it went in. I'm pretty happy," Tanev said of the goal.

Jannik Hansen had a goal and an assist while Kevin Bieksa also scored for the Canucks, who have won three straight games. Roberto Luongo made 23 saves in the win.

Ales Hemsky and Ryan Smyth each had a goal for the Oilers, who have dropped their past three contests. Devan Dubnyk gave up all three goals on 40 shots.

"We should have been able to win that game with our goalie playing the way he was playing," said Smyth. "We blew our assignments and when you give them chances like that they'll make you pay."

Vancouver tied the game with 2:17 left in regulation after Bieksa's slap shot from the right point knicked off an Oiler player and found the back of the net.

Edmonton had a great chance to win the game in overtime when Taylor Hall was awarded a penalty shot at the 2:47 mark after getting hooked by Daniel Sedin on a breakaway, but his wrist shot was stopped by Luongo with the blocker.

The winner came with time winding down as Daniel and Henrik Sedin played catch with the puck at the left wing before Henrik sent it back to the slot and Tanev snapped it home for the winner.

Edmonton scored with 1:22 to play in the first period on the power play after Nail Yakupov chipped the puck in and Hemsky flew behind the defense to catch up to the puck and flick it in.

The Oilers made it a 2-0 game 8:08 into the second period while shorthanded as Anton Lander grabbed the puck at the left point and sent it to the low right side where Smyth was able to get it past Luongo.

Vancouver scored at the 12:41 mark of the second when Hansen swept the puck in from the left side for his first of the season.
