Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Colleen Walker, a nine-time winner on the LPGA Tour, passed away Tuesday at the age of 56 at her home in Valrico, Florida.

Walker lost a battle with cancer that began in 2003. After undergoing treatment for breast cancer, she went into remission for several years before the cancer returned her hips and pelvis in 2011.

"Colleen was not only a great ambassador for the LPGA and the game of golf, but more importantly was a true and faithful friend," said five-time LPGA Tour winner Barb Mucha. "She will be dearly missed, but her love will live on forever in our hearts."

Walker, who played on Tour from 1982-2004, had a 16-year-old son with her husband, Ron Bakich.
