JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Suns (4-1, 38-34) finished off their series with the Huntsville Stars (1-4, 30-43) by pounding out 14 hits and riding a strong rehab outing from Henderson Alvarez to a 11-2 victory at Bragan Field.

Alvarez, in his first Major League rehab start with Jacksonville, surrendered just three hits over six and two thirds innings, striking out six and walking none. The right-hander did not allow a run and also hit a three-run home run to bolster his own cause.

“I felt pretty good,” Alvarez said through a translator. “Today was a long start for me. My pitches were working real well, especially the sinker.”

“His stuff was really good,” said Suns manager Andy Barkett. “He had late life on his fastball, threw strikes and mixed his pitches well. It was just an impressive outing.”

The Suns took advantage of a sub par outing from Stars hurler Andy Moye, who lasted just three innings and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits. Ryan Fisher made it 1-0 in the bottom of the second with an RBI single and knocked in two runs in his next at-bat with a double in the third.

Jacksonville then broke the game open later in the frame. Michael Main knocked in a run with a single to push the Suns’ advantage to 4-0, and Alvarez followed with a first pitch blast over the left field wall for a three-run shot.

“We were excited,” Barkett said. “Any time the pitcher can come up and hit one, it helps you out a lot.”

Mark Canha and Chris Gutierrez added RBI’s later in the contest, while Huntsville plated their only runs in the top of the ninth on a two-run homer by Robinson Diaz.

The Suns, having finished a series in which they took four out of five from Huntsville, now head out on the road for their first road trip of the second half of the season. Jacksonville will take on Mobile at Hank Aaron Stadium in a five-game series beginning Monday. The Suns are set to send right-hander Sam Dyson (3-6, 2.53) to the mound in game one, opposed by Mobile righty Bradin Hagens (7-3, 3.07) First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. E.T.
