PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – THE PLAYERS Championship’s Giving Back Month continued this week at the annual Birdies for the Brave tournament at TPC Sawgrass on Monday, Nov. 11. Wounded Warriors and U.S. service members were joined by current and former PGA TOUR players, as well as special local guests in a tournament to celebrate Veterans Day. The PLAYERS Championship and the PGA TOUR continue to honor the men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces through various Birdies for the Brave fundraising events.

An opening ceremony took place on the TPC Sawgrass practice facility to kick off the event, and included remarks from Joe Caley (CAPT, USA-Ret), as well as PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. Each group in the outing included a U.S. service member or a Wounded Warrior, and once the groups hit THE PLAYERS Stadium Course and Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass, they were tested with more than just golf. Various holes on course involved special activities such as hitting a tee shot wearing a kevlar jacket, or shooting an air rifle.

Teams included current PGA TOUR player Jeff Klauk, as well as past players, Billy Kratzert, Leonard Thompson and Bob Duval. NBA Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore, and former Jacksonville Jaguars player Tony Boselli were among the special guests in attendance.

“THE PLAYERS Championship is humbled by the opportunity to honor so many deserving men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces,” said Matt Rapp, executive director of THE PLAYERS. “We’re extremely grateful to be involved with Birdies for the Brave and to support such a wonderful cause that is very special to the PGA TOUR.”

For the fourth year, Brumos Motor Cars and Mercedes-Benz of Orange Park served as presenting sponsors of the tournament. EverBank, Acosta and Southeastern Paper Group also returned as major sponsors of the event.

Birdies for the Brave is a national military outreach initiative that was originally created by PGA TOUR player Phil Mickelson and his wife, Amy, and subsequently adopted by the TOUR.  The program is designed to show appreciation and support to the courageous members of our U.S. Armed Forces and their families.  For more information, visit
