JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As a life-long Jaguars fan and a member of the media it has been an interesting week for yours truly. The Jags essentially started over for the second time in less than a year. I long for the days of the late 90s when you could pencil Jacksonville in the playoffs, but that still seems like years away.

So where does the franchise go from here? The one thing new General Manager Dave Caldwell said in his introductory news conference, the number one quality he wants in a head coach is that he wants him to be the “co-builder” of this team. I think that is a huge key for the Jaguars. Following the days of Shaq Harris and Jack Del Rio, the person making the personnel decisions and the coach weren’t on the same page.   That continued when Gene Smith became GM and, unfortunately for Mike Mularkey, he may have been a victim of poor timing.

I think the best thing Dave Caldwell can do is to bring a guy in who shares his vision for the team. Of course, everyone wants to win but, more importantly, they have to be in agreement of what type of team the Jaguars are going to be. If they build that team and it doesn’t work, the Jags will just go back to drawing board and start over.
