GAINESVILLE, Fla. - On a perfect day for racing the best in the NHRA hit the track in Gainesville for the start of Gatornationals. Racing fans from across North Florida flock to Gainesville Raceway every year for the first East Coast stop of the National Hot Rod Association. Drag racing superstars like John Force, Tony Pedregon, and Antron Brown are in the field this week looking to pick up an early season title.

Despite attending UF just down the road this is actually my first Gatornationals as more often than not the event falls during spring break. It's certainly something you have to see first hand to truly appreciate the event. I'll equate it to baseball in that attending a race you really use all of your senses from the smell of the fuel burning engines to hearing a car do a burnout it's a sensory overload.

The event continues through the weekend with championship races taking place on Sunday.
