Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - After resigning as Lenoir-Rhyne's football coach on Tuesday, Mike Houston reportedly will be named the new head coach at The Citadel.

Several news reports said the 42-year-old Houston, who led Lenoir-Rhyne to the NCAA Division II national championship game this season, agreed to become The Citadel's head coach over the weekend. Footballscoop.com first reported the hiring.

The Citadel has called a press conference for Thursday morning at Johnson Hagood Stadium to introduce its new coach.

Houston recently finished his third season as head coach Lenoir-Rhyne, leading the Hickory, N.C., program to a 13-2 record and the national runner-up finish to Northwest Missouri State. He was 29-8 overall with the Bears.

Houston would replace Kevin Higgins, who resigned after nine seasons at The Citadel to become the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach at Wake Forest.
