Gators rally to knock off LSU at home, 14-6
GAINESVILLE, Fla.--The offense woke up in the second half but the signature win of Will Muschamp's time at Florida has to be credited to the defense.
Matt Elam's rip and strip on what would have been an LSU 58 yard gain and first down in the red zone protected a 7-6 lead. Florida went back to the ground game and Mike Gillislee and bludgeoned the vaunted LSU defense.
After running for a mere 34 yards in the first half, Gillislee finished up with 146 yards and two touchdowns in the 14-6 win. The Tigers defense had been giving up an average of 86 yards a game, the Gators ran for 97 yards in the 3rd quarter alone.
It's hard to say anybody dominated in a 14-6 game but Florida converted on 7 of 14 third down conversions while limiting LSU to 1 of 9. Florida pitches a shutout in the second half and still has not given up a point in the fourth quarter.
Next up for the Gators is a trip to Nashville to take on the smart kids from Vanderbilt. Florida seems to back. The Gators don't have to leave the Sunshine State the rest of the way.
