ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Alex Green of Fairhope, Ala., and Zachary Healy of Peachtree Corners, Ga., share the Boys Division lead at 5-under-par 139 in the Davis Love III Junior Open. There is also a tie atop the Girls Division as Sabrina Long of Alpharetta, Ga., and Sammi Lee of Winter Park, Fla., are tied for the low tournament total at 1-over-par 145 at Sea Island Golf Club - Plantation Course.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Davis Love III Junior Open is a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-72 course at Sea Island Golf Club – Plantation Course. The event featured 62 boys and 21 girls, ages 14-18, from 12 states and three countries. The Boys Division plays the course at 6,824 yards while the Girls Division plays the course at 6,003 yards.

Healy had a rough start to his round, scrambling to save par on his first two holes, but played great from there. On No 15 Healy chipped in for birdie and followed that up with a 35-foot eagle putt on No. 16.

“The chip in was nice, and the eagle really freed me up the rest of the round,” Healy said.

Green, the first-round leader, didn’t play as well as he did in the first round, when he was 4-under-par, but he played consistent and finished strong on the back nine. Now, he will take the lessons gained from final group experience for the AJGA Huntsville Junior last week – where he finished second –  to keep himself calm.

“I learned to play my game and not the tournament,” Green said. “You can’t control winning; you can only do what you can do.

In a tie for third at 4-under-par 140 are Matt Cheng of Taipei, Taiwan and Joshua Martin of Pinehurst, N.C.  In fifth at 1-under-par 141 is Connor Slane of Helena, Ala.

In the Girls Division, Lee performed well on the par-5s, birdying both on her back nine. Those birdies came in handy, as she shot an even-par 72. The score is good enough to give her a share of the lead entering the final round, a familiar place for Lee, as she won the AJGA’s Lockton Kansas City Junior in 2011.

“It’s good to have that kind of experience, it really helps calm me down,” Lee said. “As long as I stick to my game I’ll be fine.”

Long, the Girls Division first-round leader, had a bit of a rough day, following her 2-under-par 70 with a 5-over-par 75, but she’s excited to be a part of her first AJGA final group.

“It’s kind of exciting to hold the lead going into the last day,” Long said. “I just have to keep my cool.”

In third at 5-over-par 149 is Katy Harris of St. Simons Island, S.C.
