Fargo, ND ( - North Dakota State defensive coordinator Chris Klieman was named Sunday as the successor to head coach Craig Bohl following the 2013 season.

Klieman, 46, is completing his third season at North Dakota State and second as the defensive coordinator. The unbeaten, top-ranked Bison will host New Hampshire in the FCS semifinals on Friday, needing two more wins to capture a third straight national title.

Bohl was named the new head coach at the University of Wyoming last weekend, but is remaining North Dakota State's head coach through the FCS playoffs.

Klieman, whose defense has been the best in the FCS over the last three seasons, passed on the opportunity to join Bohl's staff at Wyoming. The Bison have a 41-2 record since the start of the 2011 season.

Klieman previously spent nine seasons as an assistant at his alma mater, Northern Iowa, including as defensive coordinator. He also had assistant coaching stints at Western Illinois, Kansas, Missouri State and Loras. He spent the 2005 season as Loras' head coach, going 3-7.
