Jacksonville, Fla. – The First Tee of North Florida is sending Jake Nelson to compete in the 2013 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event that will be held September 27-29 and televised internationally on Golf Channel.
Nelson will join 80 other participants from The First Tee chapters for the event, which is in its 10th year. Nelson was selected by a national panel of judges who evaluated playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and character education learned through their involvement with The First Tee. Almost 150 applications were submitted.
Jake Nelson has been a participant at The First Tee of Jacksonville / North Florida for the last 7 years where he is now at the Eagle Level, has participated in The Golf Channel Invitational twice, the Hank Haney First Tee Academy and The Life Skills & Leadership Academy in Phoenix AZ, all participant opportunities The First Tee offers. Jake is passionate about the game of golf and The First Tee Core Values. Jake also plays golf for his high school in Jacksonville Fl., Bolles. He is a team leader and great competitor. In addition to The First Tee and Bolles High School, Jake also competes on the North Florida Jr. Golf Tour and The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour where he recently won the HJGT JAGA City Championship held at Deerwood Country Club shooting 2 sub-par rounds to earn the Championship.
Nelson and the other juniors will be teamed with 81 Champions Tour players and 162 amateurs as they compete for the pro-junior title at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course. Play will be conducted on Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course on Friday and Saturday, and final round will be played on Pebble Beach on Sunday.
