McGladrey winner gains Masters invite
AUGUSTA, Ga. - With the PGA's fall series now earning full points for the FedEx cup the folks at Augusta have taken notice. Winners of fall events, including the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island, will now be invited to play in the Masters the next year. Augusta National Golf Club and Masters Tournament Chairman Billy Payne made the announcement Wednesday morning at his annual press conference.
The move comes with a caveat however as less spots will be given to top finishers in the Masters and U.S. Open. Now the top 12 in Augusta earns a return trip instead of the top 16 and the U.S. Open spots are trimmed from top eight to top four. For the McGladrey Classic it's great news as a spot in the Masters will likely attract a more competitive field. This years event takes place at Sea Island Golf Club from November 4th to the 10th.
