ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - After two straight trips to the Southeastern Conference championship game, Georgia has given coach Mark Richt a raise and another year on his contract.

The athletic association board approved a hike in total compensation from $2.81 million to $3.2 million a year at its meeting Tuesday. The board also extended the coach's contract through the 2017 season.

Athletic director Greg McGarity says Richt was deserving of the raise because after guiding the Bulldogs within 5 yards of a trip to the national championship game. They came up just short against Alabama in the SEC title game, settling for a trip to the Capital One Bowl.

Georgia finished 12-2, improving Richt's career record to 118-40 in 12 seasons at Georgia. The Bulldogs have won two SEC titles during his tenure.
