Miami, Fla. -

A title-game atmosphere in Sun Life Stadium? At the very least, the seating plan will be the same.

Miami Athletic Director Blake James, in an appearance on WQAM, said the school will add more than 1,300 extra seats to the stadium for its Sept. 7 home date with Florida.

That’s the same number of extra seats added to Sun Life for last January’s BCS Championship between Alabama and Notre Dame, James said. As they were then, the seating will be built into the home sideline in front of the permanent stands.

Official capacity for Hurricanes games at Sun Life is 75,542, UM said. During most games, the school covers seats in the upper bowl corners with four tarps, which reduces available seating by more than 9,000. UM Associate AD for Communications Chris Freet said the tarps will be removed for the UF game and the school will add 1,312 seats, which brings max capacity to 76,854.

The last Hurricanes game at Sun Life Stadium the school considers a sellout was Miami’s 24-6 win over No. 17 Ohio State on Nov. 17, 2011. Official attendance for that game was 66,279, but the tarps were in place.

Asked about the status of ticket sales, James said a small number of season tickets are still available. If those go unsold by game time — he didn’t specify the date — the school will release them for sale.

Freet said those tickets may not reach the open market.

“We are in process of selling all the seats to a waiting list of Hurricane Club (donors) members,” Freet wrote in an email. “The list was 700 accounts long after the previous single game allotment was sold. These seats will never be ‘publicly’ available because [Hurricane Club] members will scoop them up.”

Freet said if Hurricane Club members do not buy all the extra seats, a small number of single tickets — he guessed a couple hundred — could be available. However, they might be one seat in the middle of a section.

Currently, the cheapest ticket for UM-UF on StubHub is $120, for end zone seats high in the upper rows of the stadium. nosebleeds. By contrast, StubHub’s most expensive ticket for the Hurricanes’ season opener at Sun Life against Florida Atlantic: $255. Tickets for that game start at six bucks.
