GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have annonuced they have waived Former Florida Gators wide receiver Chris Rainey after he found himself in jail, again.

The Gainesville Police Department arrested Rainey on a charge of simple battery.

Police say he and his girlfriend got into a fight over Rainey's cell phone.

Witnesses saw Rainey slap his girlfriend with an open hand. Both fell to the ground before the woman ran off.

Rainey chased her down because his cell phone was in her bag, according to police.

No one was hurt in the scuffle over the cell phone.

Police say Rainey and his girlfriend have been dating for nine months.

Back in 2010, police arrested Rainey on a charge of aggravated stalking. He got kicked of the team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Rainey in the 5th round in the 2012 draft. As a rookie, he ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries for the Steelers.
