Suns Ozuna promoted to Miami

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins have made a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tomorrow's series-opening game against the Jackson Generals at The Ballpark in Jackson in Jackson, Tenn.

Outfielder Marcell Ozuna has been promoted to the major league Miami Marlins, and will make his big league debut against the New York Mets at Marlins Park on Tuesday night.

The Southern League announced Monday that Ozuna was selected as the league's Hitter of the Week for the time frame between April 22-28.

In that span, Ozuna compiled a .367 average (11-30), adding six runs, a double and a triple, five homers and 11 RBI in those seven games.

Among all Minor Leaguers in that span, Ozuna ranked second, behind only High-A San Jose outfielder Devin Harris, in homers, in addition to tied for first in extra-base hits (seven) and tied for third in RBI (11) in Minor League Baseball during that week.

Ozuna, the third-best prospect in the Miami Marlins organization according to Baseball America, played in ten games with the Suns, compiling a .333 (14-for-42) batting average with five homers and 15 runs batted in. Despite playing in just those ten contests, Ozuna is second in the league with his five home runs.

A corresponding roster move has not been announced, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns are off on Tuesday for travel to Jackson, Tennessee, for a five-game series with the Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The first game of that series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 8:05 p.m. ET.

Jacksonville returns home Tuesday, May 7 for a five-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
