JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Southern League announced Thursday Jacksonville Suns relievers Grant Dayton and Scott McGough have been added to the South Division squad for the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game, which the Suns will host at Bragan Field on July 17 at 7:05 p.m. Including Dayton and McGough, the Suns will have eight players represented in the contest, while Suns skipper Andy Barkett will also manage the South Division team.
Dayton in 15 appearances for the Suns this season has accumulated a 2-3 record and 3.63 ERA (7 ER in 17.1 IP), adding 28 strikeouts in those 17.1 innings pitched. The southpaw, who was named to the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Team in 2012, was selected by the Marlins in the 11th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Auburn University.
McGough has recorded a 4-0 mark and 2.17 ERA (11 ER in 45.2 IP) in his 26 relief appearances for Jacksonville in 2013, in addition to a 1.07 WHIP. The right-hander was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of the University of Oregon and was acquired by the Marlins as part of a July 25, 2012 trade that also included current Marlins right-hander Nathan Eovaldi.
Dayton and McGough will join Suns outfielder Jake Marisnick, as well as starting pitchers Adam Conley and Jay Jackson, along with relief pitchers Michael Brady, Arquimedes Caminero and Collin Cargill on the South Division All-Star roster. Former Suns outfielder Kyle Jensen was also honored by the Southern League as an All-Star but will not participate in the contest due to his promotion to Triple-A New Orleans. Starter Sam Dyson was also originally selected to play but will be unable to participate due to injury.
The two replace Dyson and Pensacola Blue Wahoos right-handed starter Josh Smith, who is also unable to participate. Revised rosters for both the North and South Division squads are attached.
The Suns will host the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game at Bragan Field on July 17 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at JaxSuns.com, or at the box office at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
