Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood announced his retirement on Wednesday after three-plus years in the position.
Livengood, 68, led the construction of UNLV's state-of-the-art basketball practice facility and hired Dave Rice as the programs' head basketball coach in 2011. UNLV's student-athlete graduation rates also improved under Livengood's watch.
"This has been something I have been contemplating for the past year. It's time I step aside and allow someone else to take the lead with the Rebels and keep moving forward," Livengood said. "I've been blessed to be an athletics director for nearly three decades. You can't ask for much more than that in a career. And I'm proud to end my AD career as a Rebel."
Livengood was also an athletic director at Arizona, Washington State and Southern Illinois.
