Larry Spruill

Larry Spruill is a general assignment reporter at Action News Jax.

He joined the Action News Jax team in November 2014.

Since coming to Jacksonville, Larry has covered a lot of big stories.

He appeared on FOX News during local coverage of the sinking of El Faro.

He also continued the coverage of the murder of Kendrick Johnson, a teen who was found dead inside a Lowndes County High School gym mat in Valdosta, Georgia.

Larry was the only local reporter to speak one on one with the teen’s parents.

Larry also recently reported on a string of gang violence here in Jacksonville.

Before coming to Action News Jax, Larry worked at WJCL-TV in Savannah, where he was the Lowcountry Bureau Chief/Weekend Anchor.

Prior to that, Larry worked as a General Assignment Reporter/Fill-In Morning Anchor at WGXA-TV in Macon, Georgia. He also worked at their competing station WMAZ as a Video Journalist.

Larry attended Valdosta State University and majored in Mass Media with an emphasis on television broadcasting.

Larry grew up as an Air Force military brat, which is probably the reason why he loves to travel. He also enjoys food. He can’t narrow it down to one favorite meal, but his mom’s cooking is at the top of his list.

In his spare time, he mentors with the Community in Schools program and likes to spend time with family, friends and fraternity brothers. He also enjoys working out, singing on his church’s praise and worship team and cooking.

Larry is a licensed minister and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.
