Man shot by Kern County Sheriff's deputy

BAKERSFIELD, CA - A man is being treated for moderate injuries after a sheriff's deputy shot him in east Bakersfield Sunday night. The sheriff's department is conducting an investigation into what happened.

Sheriff's investigators say a man was shot by a deputy in the 3300 block of Pioneer Drive. That's near Oswell Street and Edison Highway.

Investigators were on scene through the night. Sheriff's officials haven't released details on what took place leading up to the shooting.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said, "That's information we're not releasing at this point because we are in the early stages of the investigation. We're still trying to determine exactly what led up to the shooting and what occurred."

Sheriff's officials say the suspect, whose name has not been released, is being treated for moderate injuries at Kern Medical Center. no word on his condition.

They won't say how many deputies were involved, only that none of them were injured.
