Our rescued Black and Tan Coon hound Barnaby pasted three years ago. Our family has been looking for a replacement dog to fill the void. In our case we had to make sure that the rescue could understand a household with an autistic child.  Most of the groups that train therapy dogs were filling spots for more needy.  We completely  understood. Three years of waiting and investigating what would work for us, provided a chance meeting of two pups in need of a home.
On a very rainy Saturday trying to get to a Dentist appointment, I gave up the fight and turned around to go back home.  I take care of animals for a living and decided to visit my local livestock feed store , hoping they cared birds supplies . There set a clothes basket with two tiny pups that were absolutely cuddled so close I thought it was one.  I could hear folks talking about them , saying they already had dogs, but was looking for the supplies to get home.  I  noticed that when I would walk by , the pups would whimper and I asked if they had been fed recently. The owner mentioned that mom had a big litter and that they were wearing her out. They needed a good home and had been together since birth. The sister of the pair was protecting the boy , who seems small and slow, so the owner wanted to home them together.  Fate had put me there and touched my heart that day, so it was my decision.  Well, you can pretty much guess the rest.
Brought them both home where Phillip , my autistic son, bottle fed them Goats milk while they were adapting a more solid diet.  They slept by his bed and played next to him as they grew. . The bond was made while they were young and slow. They are older now , sixteen weeks in the most recent shot, and they are still close.  The brown pup is GATOR and his sister in PEACHES. My Florida/Georgia fan friends are happy with this choice.  Their training is still ongoing and hopefully will remain wonderful companion pets for Phillip. I get up at 4:15am Monday thru Friday , make my coffee and feed them. They sit with me and watch your 4:30 to 5 News cast. We are big fans of your morning show.  Thanks for reading my story. ~ MsLaurenR from the Westside in Marietta
