Avondale’s R. Roberts Gallery is hosting a first-of- its-kind exhibit in Northeast Florida with opening of “True Colors: A Celebration of the Contributions by Gay Artists to the Visual Arts” on Friday, May 8, 2009. An opening reception will be held that evening from 6-9 PM.

The exhibit will feature works by historic and contemporary Gay and Lesbian artists who have rocked the visual arts world including Andy Warhol, Jean Cocteau, John Morse, Keith Haring, Gilles Blanchard, Danny Dogger, Diane Blok and other art historic stars. Both national and international artists are featured in the exhibit. In addition, the exhibit will showcase legendary portrait subjects such as Michelangelo, Susan B. Anthony, Janet Gaynor, Oscar Wilde, Lord Alfred Douglas and others. All art is available for acquisition.

The True Colors exhibit will benefit JASMYN, the Jacksonville Area Sexual Youth Minority Network, which will receive a portion of the proceeds from sales throughout the entire exhibit. JASMYN builds safe space for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth under 24 to nurture their health and well-being and enhance pride and self-esteem.

This unique exhibit and sale will run through June 8th.
