The Kick Off Celebration for the First Coast Beaches 2010 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event will be held Thursday, July 29th, at the Casa Marina Hotel in Jacksonville Beach from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

This is an early opportunity to register for the walk and learn more about the event which takes place Saturday, October 16th at the Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach. Last year’s walk attracted more than 2,000 participants and raised over $120,000. Organizers are hoping to increase the number this year.

Celebrating survivorship and rallying the support of the community early is the purpose of the Kick Off. The Beaches unit has already received generous corporate sponsorship from Tom Bush, St. Vincent's, Ring Power and the PGA, but getting the support of teams within the community is key. "Our goal is for breast cancer survivors to be able to Celebrate More Birthdays with family and friends" said Event Chair Marty Milliard, whose wife is a breast cancer survivor.

The event's theme is Celebrating More Birthdays and will include speakers from the American Cancer Society, the First Coast Beaches volunteer unit, as well as a local breast cancer survivor. "The stars of the evening are definitely the survivors" says Milliard.
Live music will be provided by Barb Hrivnak of Go Ask Alice.  Pictures courtesy of Logan Zawacki.
Admission to the Kick Off is free but RSVP’s are requested. Call Michelle Knowles at 904-391-3645 or email her at Michelle.Knowles@CANCER.ORG to RSVP.
