"Talking the Tropics With Mike": "Otto" into the E. Pacific - Nov. 25th

Nov. 25, 2016 — "Otto" made a landfall near the border of Costa Rica & Nicaragua -- the farthest south landfall of a hurricane in Central America ever recorded.  The tropical cyclone is now over the E. Pacific & will eventually wind down over open water.

The rest of the Atlantic Basin is quiet dominated by a series of strong fronts within a generally high shear environment.

Water vapor imagery:

The wind shear (red lines represent strongest shear) analysis.  "Otto" is couched in area of low shear as the hurricane moves into Central America.....

East Atlantic:

There is still a quite a bit of warm water to help "feed" tropical cyclones.  Water temps. of 28 degrees Celsius equate to 82 degrees Fahrenheit & those water temps. are starting to shift south with the change of seasons.  Tropical cyclones generally need at least 80 degree water to thrive.

Sea surface temps. vs. average.  Sea surface temps. have turned a little cooler than average around Florida north up the Carolina coast while "toasty" water is underneath "Otto".
