June 28, 2017 — Scattered showers & storms continue across the SW Atlantic, Carribbean & Gulf of Mexico within a very tropical air mass but with no organization or persistence indicated.

One fairly active tropical wave is moving into the Eastern Caribbean but strong shear is expected limit any development..

Surface analysis of the Gulf:

Caribbean/SW Atlantic satellite:

There continues to be an unseasonably early strong "wave train" parading off the coast of Africa, & we might see an attempt at tropical development from one of these waves by early to mid July or so....

Wind shear analysis:

Meanwhile... in the E. Pacific... "Dora" has has a short lifecycle after rapidly intensifying early this week off the coast of Mexico.  The cyclone should dissipate soon.

Many locals might remember "Dora" - the last landfalling hurricane on the First Coast in Sept., 1964.  The name was retired from the Atlantic Basin list of names but remains active on the E. Pacific list (names are repeated every 6 years).

Hurricane hunter aircraft wings made it to Jacksonville last week:

Miss Piggy's (#NOAA43) wings have arrived in Jacksonville, FL! The new wings are essential to keeping Miss Piggy flying for many more years to come!
