'Walking Dead' actor, former Georgia firefighter Dango Nguyen dies of cancer

Former Michigan Rep. John Conyers, who represented the Detroit area for five decades before resigning in 2017, has died. He was 90.

The leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is believed dead after being targeted by a U.S. military raid in Syria.

Former Raiders player and Hall of Famer Willie Brown died at age 78, according to reports.

Pro wrestling legend 'Handsome' Harley Race died Aug.1, 2019 of complications from lung cancer. He was 76 years old. Race was considered one of the top champions in the sport and won then NWA championship seven times.

Legendary New Orleans chef and civil rights icon Leah Chase has died at 96, according to a statement her family released to news outlets.

Actress Peggy Lipton has died from colon cancer at the age of 72, according to news reports. Lipton’s death was announced May 11, 2019, by her daughters Kidada and Rashida Jones, according to the Los Angeles Times.

K-pop star Goo Hara was found dead at her Seoul, South Korea, home Nov. 24. She was 28.

Actor Michael J. Pollard, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his role in "Bonnie and Clyde," died Nov. 20. He was 80.

British television chef and restaurateur Gary Rhodes died Tuesday, according to his family. He was 59.

Dango Nguyen, a former firefighter and actor who appeared on “The Walking Dead,” died Saturday, according to the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department. He was 48.

The department shared the news Saturday on Facebook.

Nguyen, also known by his stage name, Dango Nu Yen, played a guard in several episodes of the third season of “The Walking Dead.”

"It is with tremendous sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our former firefighters," the post read. "Dango Nguyen passed away early this morning after a hard-fought battle with cancer."

After his stint on the Atlanta-based show ended, he made appearances on several other television series, including "MacGyver," "The Originals" and "Meet The Browns," according to his IMDB page.

Before pursuing a career in entertainment, Nguyen worked for the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department for 20 years.

The department said Nguyen is survived by his wife and family.

“He touched many lives,” the post continued. “We will all remember his quick wit, high energy, and unwavering determination. We all aspire to be ‘Dango Strong.’”
