• Kylie Jenner and Stormi spark debate: How old must a baby be before getting pierced ears?

Plenty of babies in the world get pieced ears. But only celebrity babies' lobes have the power to ignite an Internet debate about the safety of body jewelry for youngsters.

One of those famous tots is Stormi Jenner, the six-month-old daughter of almost-billionaire Kylie Jenner.

After Kylie shared photos of her daughter wearing diamond studs on social media Wednesday, commenters were quick to join one of two camps. Kylie's mom-shamers, who included one Instagram user @brownersan, commented:

"I just don’t think it’s ok. Is she going to start putting big earrings in her eyes now their pierced? A babies ear is still forming and growing at that age."

Kylie's supporters argued, as @blackgoldbird_ did, that "so many parents do that to their children, my parents got my ears pierced when I was 3 month old. Everybody do that."

So the question is: Can something that's been done for generations, particularly in Latin American, African American and Middle Eastern households, be unsafe? Or, better yet, should people care about what other parents do?

These are questions the Internet worked to answer back in 2013 when supermodel Gisele Bundchen shared a photo of her then-seven-month-old daughter Vivian who had pierced ears.

As far as we can tell, the 5-year-old is doing fine.
