Action News Jax learned there have been 5 shootings in Arlington within last 9 days

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two arrests were made in the officer-involved shooting on Tuesday night, including a gang member and his girlfriend, police said.

Another shooting was deadly.

“It says a lot about where we are and the state of our protective services,” one neighbor said.

She didn’t want her name shared out of safety. She said she found four bullet holes in her backyard fence from Tuesday’s officer-involved shooting.

She also said she has seen more patrol cars in the area.

“It’s happening everywhere, so that needs to be a standard for wherever they are or stationed that so everyone feels that sense of security,” she said.

City Councilwoman Joyce Morgan said working with schools and recreational parks are steps being taken to change dynamics in the community.

“It’s going to take all of us,” Morgan said. “It’s not going to be just the JSO and, certainly, not just the initiatives City Council has going on.”

Action News Jax asked the city if it is aware of the recent shootings and what actions are being taken, and the mayor’s office responded in a statement that public safety remains a top priority:

“It’s also why we invest in tools, technologies and strategies to help state attorney Melissa Nelson nelson and her team prosecute dangerous criminals and keep them off our streets.”

As for the woman we spoke with, she said it’s important to be involved with your community.

“It’s good for us to get to know your neighbors, find out what’s going on without being nosy but to make sure you’re safe,” she said.

Other neighbors in this area told us they feel safe, but it’s important to look out for one another.
