Afghan trainees graduate at Moody Air Force Base; 2 students still missing

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Nine afghan trainees stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga., graduate Friday while two Afghan students are still missing.

The whereabouts of the two Afghan trainees remain unknown after they were last seen on Dec. 4.

The Department of Homeland Security said it is following a variety of electronic and physical leads.

Mirwais Kohistani and Shirzad Rohullah were reported missing on Dec. 8 when they didn't report for duty.

The two were training with the 81st Fighter Squadron at Moody Air Force Base.

Air Force and defense officials said there is no reason to believe that the men pose any threat. But the New York Times recently published an article shedding light on how desertions are slowing the process of the United States training the Afghan Air Force, a unit said to be weak.

If found, the two men face immediate deportation to Afghanistan.
