Caught On Camera: Burglar raids local hobby store, owner says $2,000 worth of items stolen

A local RC hobby store says they’re down roughly $2,000 after someone broke into their store, and it was all caught on camera. Security video given to Action News Jax shows a man breaking into the Florida RC Outlet on the Westside, sprinting through the store and taking things off shelves.

It all happened early Tuesday morning. Owner Andy Escobar said the man stole roughly $2,000 worth of items.

“He took about a $750 boat, batteries, speed controllers, and some chargers,” Escobar said.

Escobar said the man broke off the lock to the front entrance, and their alarm went off 30 seconds later. However, by the time he left, he already got the things he needed. The owner called it disappointing.

“A lot of anger, as I guess anybody would (have),” he said. “We worked hard to build this up to be what it has been.”

The good news is nobody was hurt, and the man was caught on camera by every angle, taking a specific type of boat.

“He had a minute about or so to go through everything. We could tell by the way he came into the store that he had come in here before,” Escobar said.

Escobar filed a police report and said detectives are working the case, hoping to find the man. While he says it could’ve been worse, they’re making sure they’re extra prepared if it ever happens again.

“We’ve upgraded the locks so they can’t be twisted off the door as he did, and we are putting up a security gate upfront to make a little more difficult,” Escobar said.

The owner is asking anybody who has any information to give them a call and contact the police.
