Jacksonville man allegedly drops baby, lies to police; Baby later dies from injuries, police say

Jacksonville, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested Jerrontra Donshae White, 26, on Nov. 25 on aggravated child abuse charges, police say.

According to the report, a baby boy was left in White's custody while he was living alone in a motel room. White told police that he was holding the baby in his arms and had picked up a bottle to feed the child, the report said.

White said that as he picked up the bottle the baby began to fall out of his arms. He additionally told police he had been frustrated with the child's crying and was tired from work.

The report said that the child's head subsequently struck a nearby table, causing "significant injury," including breakage to the baby's skull. After the child was injured, White put the baby in the bed and lied down next to him. White allegedly fell asleep until the baby's mother came to pick him up.

The baby's mother began to notice that the infant was acting strangely and took him to the hospital. He was treated for severe head trauma and died several days later at the hospital, according to the report.

Police say that White originally told them that there was no fall and that he had no idea what caused the baby’s injury. He later stated that he had lied because “he was scared of jail,” the report said.
