Design ideas for the former Jacksonville Landing site now being accepted

Jacksonville, FL — The City of Jacksonville’s Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) is looking for designs to develop the former Jacksonville Landing site, now known as Riverfront Plaza.

Wednesday, the DIA released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for design firms and their consultants to participate in a design competition for the waterfront property.

Qualified firms will make presentations at a public workshop and a winning team will be chosen.

“We are so thrilled to release this much-anticipated RFP,” said Lori Boyer, DIA CEO. “We dedicated a lot of time and effort to prepare a scope and assign evaluation points that both reflect the significance of the site, and effectively capture the critical requirements and input needed to activate this premiere space on our beautiful Riverwalk. We look forward to reviewing the submissions come March and wish all interested parties the best of luck.”

First, the city will review all submissions, then select three design teams to participate in the competition. Those teams should be chosen by the end of March.

After that, those three teams will receive a stipend to complete designs that will showcase their visions for Riverfront Plaza and how it will mix with future development. In June, the designs will be presented to the public and Downtown stakeholders.

The winner of the design competition will then be invited to negotiate a full professional services design contract with the city.

In a news release, the city said it hopes to be under construction by January of 2022.
