A Port St. Lucie teacher arrested in May has pleaded no contest to a charge of sexual relations with a minor.
Tiffany Michelle Geliga, 36, who taught chemistry at Port St. Lucie High School, was facing up to 15 years in jail. Under the plea agreement, her maximum sentence will be 10 years, according to our news partners WPTV Channel 5.
Geliga met the 17-year-old student when she began tutoring him at Indian River State College, according to Port St. Lucie police. They had sex at least two times in a car off campus.
In Florida, the age of sexual consent is 18. No one under the age of 16 can give consent under any circumstances.
She was arrested and initially charged with two counts of sexual assault on a minor.
Geliga had been employed by the St. Lucie Public Schools since August 2014. She was removed from her position after her arrest.
Under the agreement, she will lose her teaching license. Her sentencing date is scheduled for March.
