Jacksonville-area coronavirus updates: Mayor Curry announces community pool hours and free youth summer camps

NORTHEAST FLORIDA, SOUTHEAST GEORGIA — More than 50,900 people in Florida and 43,900 people in Georgia have been infected with the new coronavirus, and the number of deaths from the outbreak continues to rise. Officials are attempting to contain the COVID-19 outbreak in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia as schools, businesses and public events are closed or canceled.

Mayor Curry announced community pool hours and free youth summer camps

May 27, 12:30 p.m.: Mayor Lenny Curry announced Wednesday community pools will begin a phased opening on June 8th.

Pools, with the exception of Cecil Aquatic Center, will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 2 to 6 p.m. on Sundays; the openings will occur in four phases based on staff availability:

Full-day Summer Camps – The full-day enrichment camps will provide opportunities for youth to participate in group activities including crafts, games, educational sessions and recreational sports.

Dates: June 15 – July 24

Times: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Registration will be required. Online registration begins Friday, June 5 and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be no field trips and the summer lunch program will be offered.

Club Rec Camps – The half-day, drop-in programs will provide opportunities for youth to participate in group activities including crafts, games, educational sessions and recreational sports.

Dates: June 15 – July 24

Times: noon – 5 p.m.

Mayor Curry to announce phased opening of public pools, plans for City-sponsored summer camps

May 27, 9:45 a.m.: Mayor Curry will outline details for summer camps in Duval County as well as the phased opening of public pools throughout the City. He will also discuss the addition of $5,000,000 to the Mortgage, Rent & Utility Relief Program.

Book drops for returns open at all Jacksonville Public Library locations

May 27, 5:30 a.m.: Starting Wednesday, curbside pickup by appointments are available at selected library locations, and book drops for returns are open at all library locations.
