Jacksonville-area coronavirus updates: Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach set to reopen Saturday

NORTHEAST FLORIDA, SOUTHEAST GEORGIA — More than 50,400 people in Florida and 43,500 people in Georgia have been infected with the new coronavirus, and the number of deaths from the outbreak continues to rise. Officials are attempting to contain the COVID-19 outbreak in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia as schools, businesses and public events are closed or canceled.

Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach set to reopen Saturday

May 26, 4:35 p.m.: Adventure Landing’s Jacksonville Beach location is set to reopen at limited capacity on Saturday, May 30.

Some entertainment offerings in the fun park may not be available on Saturday, Adventure Landing said.

Shipwreck Island Waterpark, which is inside Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach, will reopen with limited capacity on Saturday, June 6.

Orange Park fully reopening Town parks, playgrounds

May 26, 4:20 p.m.: Beginning Tuesday, the Town of Orange Park is fully reopening all Town parks including all playgrounds and the Skateboard Park. These parks include:

  • Town Hall Park & Playground located at 2042 Park Ave.
  • Clarke House Park located at 1039 Kingsley Ave.
  • Orange Park Sports & Recreation Park located at 1101 Gano Ave. (This park encompasses the ball fields, tennis courts and playground areas.)
  • Orange Park Skateboard Park located at 1006 Fromhart St.
  • TC Miller Community Center & Recreation Park located at 440 McIntosh Ave.
  • Somer’s Sunshine Park located at the corner of Gano Ave. and DeBarry Ave.

All park hours are sunrise to sunset except for the Skateboard Park which is open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., weather permitting.

Physical distancing of six feet between people and all other Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines should be followed when using parks, facilities or pavilions. Pavilions are open for use on a first come, first served basis. Reservations will be accepted beginning June 20, 2020 and can be made via the Town’s online scheduling system here: https://topparkreservations.as.me/

Organized athletic associations must submit a safety plan for approval to the Town of Orange Park Events & Recreation Department.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announces next justices appointed to Florida Supreme Court

May 26, 12:20 p.m.: Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday named Miami attorney John Couriel and Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Renatha Francis to the Florida Supreme Court.

Couriel and Francis will fill seats left open when former justices Barbara Lagoa and Robert Luck were appointed last year to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. DeSantis has made reshaping the Supreme Court a top priority since taking office in January 2019. The News Service will have a full story later Tuesday.

TIAA Bank Field COVID-19 testing site closed for rest of day

May 26, 12 p.m.: The COVID-19 testing site at TIAA Bank Field is closed for the remainder of the day Tuesday due to inclimate weather.


Jacksonville Jaguars reopen club facility

May 26, 7 a.m.: Per the NFL’s protocol for the reopening of club facilities, the Jaguars and Bold Events will begin phase one of the reopening of their offices Tuesday.

Despite the personnel restrictions that have been in place since March 12, the Jaguars’ football and business operations have remained fully open on a virtual basis for the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic.
