Troopers: Jacksonville man killed in Flagler County crash

A 56-year-old Jacksonville man is dead after a crash in Flagler County early Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to the FHP crash report, arond 3:19 a.m., a 18-year-old Palm Coast driver of a sedan was traveling on I-95 in the center lane. The Jacksonville man was driving a tractor/trailer in front of the sedan in the same lane.

The Palm Coast driver told troopers, she was distracted by her phone when she drifted into another lane, over-corrected, causing the car to swerve from the outside lane and into the center lane.

Troopers said the front of her car collided with the wheels of the Jacksonville man’s vehicle, causing him to lose control and hit a guardrail within the center median.

The woman’s car continued to slide across the roadway and colliding with the man’s vehicle again.

Troopers say the man who died in the crash was wearing a seatbelt.

The woman had minor injuries. The names of both drivers has not been released at this time.
