The Miami Herald reports jurors deliberated less than two hours Tuesday before convicting Byron Mitchell of attempted murder and false imprisonment.
Prosecutors say Danielle Cabo Jones moved in with Mitchell after he placed an ad for a roommate on Craigslist and they'd been living together for about a week before the February 2016 beating.
Mitchell claimed Jones attacked him with a knife and he had to defend himself. He was uninjured.
Jones suffered a cracked skull, broken teeth, and was in a coma for 24 days.
Mitchell's attorney argued there was no evidence to prove he planned the attack, adding that he sought medical help for her.
